Virtual/Augmented Reality Enhanced Learning for Chemical Engineers

Yap Swee Kun Sachin Jangam

Overview

The first aim of this project is to provide students with a realistic view of how a typical unit such as a pump or distillation column looks like via the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The second aim is to allow students to visualize the implications of tweaking parameters on the unit (pump or distillation column) of interest. This is especially useful at the year 4 stage, where students are tasked to design specific unit operations within a chemical plant for their individual design project report. The third aim is to excite students in the topic they are learning via the immersive experience provided by AR/VR.
