TEAMMATES: A Flexible Feedback Management System for Education

A/Prof Damith Chatura Rajapakse

Overview

TEAMMATES is an online peer feedback management system built by SoC students and has been in operation since 2012. The target users are instructors who need more flexibility in facilitating feedback than that is provided by their main LMS. This project aimed to evolve TEAMMATES to become a more flexible platform for instructors to facilitate various feedback paths in T&L. Given below are the main benefits as per the original proposal

For the world
• Can help thousands of instructors and students in their teaching and learning.
• Its high level of configurability will make it a suitable platform for pedagogical research. E.g. to evaluate the effectiveness of various peer feedback mechanisms.

For NUS
• An estimated 13,000 NUS students will have used this software by mid-2018.
• Having a widely-known ‘made in NUS’ software enhances the NUS brand among the higher education community.
• NUS earns the bragging rights for creating the biggest student project in the world, in terms of code size, number of users, and number of student developers.

For SoC
• As this software will be used as a model software project in several SoC modules (CS2103, CS2103T, CS2113, CS2113T, CS3281, CS3282, CP3200), more SoC students will get a chance to work on real, large-scale software that is used by thousands. This will enhance students’ Software Engineering skills, motivation to learn those skills, confidence when entering the job market, and career prospects.
