Evaluation of the Impact on Competency and Students’ Satisfaction by Incorporating Smartphone Technology in Clinical Psychiatric Teaching

Roger CM Ho

Overview

1.The primary aim of this project is to use smartphone technology to augment clinical psychiatric teaching and help students to master clinical psychiatric skills in an effective manner.
2.This project will allow medical students to have access to standardized factual information in text format and clinical materials in videos via the stateof-art smart phone application at any place and any time at their convenience.
3.The instant access to clinical videos will allow medical students to observe how to conduct various types of psychiatric assessment at any time and any place. Such information is difficult to be taught by a standard textbook.
4.The new application will be free-of-charge to our medical students and this will enhance the quality of learning without additional cost.
5.The medical students will have better examination performance and greater satisfaction with psychiatric teaching and learning at NUS.
6.The experience gained from this project will have a potential for broad programmatic application in other subjects of clinical medicine.
