Development of Technology-Enhanced Contents for ME4262 Automation in Manufacturing

Lee Kim Seng

Overview

This project looks into the development of on-line eLearning contents that students taking the ME4262 module can easily access from anywhere using Laptop, iPad or iPhone and view them at their own pace and even on the move. The staff hopes to free up some time to discuss the problems face and also provide more interaction including discussion of case studies with the students in class.
Students contact: Once the interactive e_learning contents are uploaded on to the IVLE, students will be instructed to access the topic material using their portable devices prior to coming for the lecture. The staff will experiment with break-up sessions with up to 50 students to interact and discuss case studies of automation investment justifications, process layout, material handling requirements, auto-storage and retrieval and logistics in the companies etc and student will be grouped into 5-6 students using the smart classroom. During the session, students will be given about half an hour to discuss the case among them on each case study and each group will then make a presentation. The rest of the students can then participate by providing comments, feedback s etc which adds to more interactions.
Clickers will also be used in the lecture to get instance feedbacks from the students on their understanding and following the lectures, the lecturer can then explain the differences in the poll results thus provides interaction with students.
Experience industrial personals/managers will also be invited to share their experiences in industries with the students of this automation in manufacturing module.
